A little tent on the beach. That's where my men will be spending the night. Today is 'Boy's Night Out/Girl's Night In'. Nick and Nathan have headed down to Galveston with our tent, a backpack full of food and supplies (packed by Mommy), a sleeping bag, sand toys (for playing tomorrow), a lantern (to facilitate playing tonight!), and one dearly loved stuffed bear. Nathan doesn't know what camping is, but he heard the words "Nathan", "go", "with", and "Daddy", and that was all it took to arouse his enthusiasm. I think they will have a riot.

Nick asked me, just shortly after Nia's birth, if I would mind staying home with Nia so he could take Nathan camping overnight. Actually, the way he worded it was, "Now that you have your own little girl, would you mind if I take Nathan camping sometime?" I have NO idea why having a daughter is a prerequisite to taking a son camping. In fact, I'm quite confident I would have cheerfully allowed them to go even before Nia was born. What's not to love about a little mini Mom-vacation? But, anyway, I am going to hold down the fort with Nia and Mr. Valencia, and I'll see my boys again sometime tomorrow.

"Girl's Night In" is really lacking in excitement. I suppose I could primarily attribute the dull activity list to the age and interaction level of my companion for the evening. If she were a little older, say Nathan's age, we could do fun things like painting our fingernails and making sugar cookies. As it is, we will be content with bottle feedings and diaper changes. I'll probably also clean the orange crayon off the woodwork in our bedroom (Nathan is bent on creating murals), vacuum the microscopic particles of Cheez-it out of the carpet, do a load of laundry (scrubbing each individual, tiny, pink item to remove the spit-up stains), and empty the litter box. Truth be told, I prefer this to camping.

Unfortunately for the viewer's of this blog, there will be no photo documentation from this premier camping trip. I decided not to stand at the top of the stairs snapping photographs of the boys as they walked toward the car donning tent/backpack/Mr. Bear. I also didn't send the camera along so Nick could take pictures of Nathan as he unzips/zips/unzips/zips (etc. etc.) the tent. This time together will remain just between the two of them. What a fun Daddy Nick is! Nathan is a lucky little boy.

I just hope the Jones' men get a little sleep tonight. If they don't, I won't want to deal with either of them tomorrow!!

I love Galveston Island, but I don't think I love it enough to sleep in a tent ... it would take a lot (I think) for me to enjoy being in a tent for an entire night. However, I think Nick and Nathan will have a lot of fun! I hope you and Nia enjoy a little quiet time together and that your sleep is sweet. We are just a little over 200 miles away! Lord willing, we'll see you tomorrow afternoon sometime! :)

In looking at our family calender, the little kids and I can join you easily but Andrew is a maybe and Olivia will be in school. Monday or Thursday looks best though as we have things in the evening the other days.
