It was supposed to be Nia's 'going-home-from-the-hospital' dress. It was the only item in her wardrobe that I paid full price for. It reminded me of the dress that I wore home from the hospital. BUT, I was a 9lb 2oz baby. I fit into clothes size 0-3 months only if they were generously cut. Nia, on the other hand, was a 6lb 6oz baby. She fit into preemie clothes only if they were a trim cut. What a difference those extra pounds make!
Were it not for a slim cut onesie that I had haphazardly thrown into my 'hospital bag', our poor daughter would have headed home in the same manner she arrived on earth: naked. Fortunately, we clothed her in that onesie and wrapped her tightly in a blanket. It did the trick although it was far from being pleasing to the eye. As I was wheeled down to our car, I looked at Nia and couldn't help but think that she was being jipped of the opportunity to wear her cute purple dress. I remembered the outfit that Nathan wore home from the hospital. He was the image of a little man in his brown sweater and (grandpa-style) checkered pants. Alas, Nia's homecoming dimmed in aesthetic comparison.
BUT, today Nia wore her purple dress. It fit her beautifully. She was the princess at church this morning--people all across the sanctuary discreetly pointed, whispered, and smiled in Nia's direction. I pretended not to notice, but I confess it all went right to my head. I sure love my little girl!
It was smiles all around this morning. I'm so glad to be Mommy to a handsome, smart, almost-two-year-old son and a beautiful, sweet, almost-three-week-old daughter.

The dress is pretty, Nia is pretty!! It is worth the wait to see her in her dress. Wear it often before she out grows it.
Kiss both the kids for me.
Love,
Boppa
What a beautiful purple dress ... only a three-week delay isn't too bad. I'm glad she didn't have to come home from the hospital without clothing!
We miss you guys ...
