As a Mom, I often find myself with all sorts of time to fill and a lack of creative ideas. I want to have fun things to do with my kids, but often we just revert back to the usual activities. And, really, that isn't a bad thing. Nathan ALWAYS loves reading books, playing with trucks, or coloring. However, yesterday evening we added a new activity to our repertoire. We built a fort! We had so much fun that I think this may become another 'regular'. Here is Nathan playing inside our fort. He called it a 'house.'
We used our little camping lantern to light the inside of the fort. Nathan enjoyed turning the light on and off. He insisted Nia join in the fun. She was sleeping, but to comply with Nathan's wish, I moved her pallet to just inside the fort. See?
Here's the overview picture. Really, the fort defined 'gaudy monstrosity', but it was FUN! Three kitchen chairs and two big fleece blankets amounted to unlimited fun.
Oh, and the cat. Nathan didn't even need to force the cat into the tent. (S)he headed in completely on her own.
When Nia woke up I took this picture of her. I call her the 'Beauty Queen.' I asked Nick if he is concerned that the name might go right to her head. He didn't seem terribly worried. She is smiley lately. I guess this either means she is happy or incredibly gassy. I prefer to assume the prior, but I'll let you think what you will.
Nick and Nathan are out having some bonding time this afternoon. When they get back we'll do something as a family. I would stay seated at the computer and make this blog entry longer and more interesting, but in preparation for my time on 'Mom-duty' tomorrow, I am planning to make up a batch of play dough. I was inspired by Nathan's enjoyment of sugar-cookie-making. I think we'll have a riot!

Forts are the best! :) Fort-making will continue almost to the teenage years! I'm glad Nia could be included in on the fun; and -- is she ever beautiful! I love her smile and the outfit she is wearing. Have fun making playdough tomorrow!

P.S. Grandpa Jones says Nia's smile is not gas!

Forts are one of our favorites and regulars! Jackson loves playdough too but I never buy any. Can you send me your recipe?

Nia is beautiful and I don't think you can tell she is often enough. As for the smile, definitely because she is happy.
