The USS Nathan had humble beginnings. Born of an unknown boat-maker in a time where sails were imported from under Cuban dictatorship, Father Time (now known as the USS Nathan) has had a long and fulfilling life. If only the boat could talk...what memories he would share! Many of you have followed the USS through his ups and downs (quite literally), and are aware that he has now become a staple in our household. Nick tackled all the construction necessary to transform Father Time (lowly sailboat) into the USS Nathan (Nathan's bed!) with seemingly little effort and incredible results! (Refer to photographs of earlier posts to see what the bed looks like when it's assembled.) Now the part that I really enjoy has begun...the creative, decorative part.
I love this kind of thing. I like to have a project--an outlet for my creativity. Nathan adores his bed and, frankly, it is the perfect piece for a little boy's room. Just our luck, baby number two will be Nia and will be forced to share this masculine space with her brother for a little while. Oh, well, she won't mind! The joy of being small is that you quickly forget offenses against you, eh? I wish you all could come see this bed. Dad and Mom Jones, I guess you all will see it when you come to visit our sweet new baby! Everyone else...we'll just have to wait and see. I hated this boat from the get-go, but seeing how much Nathan loves it and how good it is for Nick to still have it, I've started to find myself growing attached. Funny how that can happen!

The USS Nathan is priceless! You guys are very creative together (hence, two children!) -- seriously, you make beautiful stuff. I love: "O God Thy sea is so great, and my boat is so small." That's awesome. And the traveling chest sounds perfect!
I'm a nautical girl myself. Where Mr. Jones is enamored with trains because he grew up with them, I grew up around Lake Huron, the Detroit River, Lake St. Clair, and Lake Erie and we had boats. My grandparents also owned a cottage on Lake Huron (Canadian side) and the best memories in my life are from times spent at that cottage. I think that is why I am so drawn to boats, water, sand, seagulls, etc. When I am near a vast body of water, I am immediately happy! Almost as happy as I am when I am in Israel!
I can't wait to see the USS Nathan in person! I am wearing a really huge smile just thinking of it!
I love the bed and the rudder! I can't wait to see them! How soon would you like another visit?
I love how you painted the rudder with "O God, Thy sea is so great, and my boat is so small." I love it! What a wonderful way to keep the boat for Nick, but in a pratical way. That blue was nauseating wasn't it? The traveling chest will be the perfect touch and the colors sound beautiful!
My favorite memories of our mom are not from the boat, I never got into that with her, but instead the sunsets at the beach. I loved watching sunsets with her over the water, or really anywhere.
A Nia! Congratulations!
My mistake! Sorry. I guess I read it wrong and thought that you had found out. My bad! As for me, I just know boys better- I grew up with five of them!
