It has been an ordinary day. Nathan is down for his nap and I will soon try to rest as well. I've learned to take Nathan outdoors for play time in the morning. It is a very pleasant temperature when we head out at 9:30 or so. We wake up, get dressed, eat breakfast, and then search for Nathan's really BIG ball to bring outside with us. On the way out the door we stop to pat goose on the head (our cement goose who proudly guards our door in rain or shine). Then we head down the stairs. Nathan tries the first three or four steps before becoming impatient and requesting I carry him to the bottom. During outside playtime I generally allow Nathan to dictate where we roam and what we play. Usually playing ball, picking and throwing grass, checking out the mailboxes, stopping in at the office for a cookie, and playing hide-and-go-seek are included (in no particular order). The final activity is always the same and is always a hit! The pool!

Being pregnant and thus oddly shaped, I feel no calling to put on a swimsuit and show off my form to the world, so Nathan and I do the poolside equivalent of walking in the shallow waves that wash up on shore: We dip our feet in! This is a good plan on two levels. One, it allows us to cool off in what quickly becomes suffocating heat. Secondly, it washes the dirt off Nathan's feet. It is amazing how dirty those little feet can become after only an hour or two of exploration. One of these days I imagine he will boldly attempt to submerge himself. Then what? I don't know. Then I guess we will have to hold off on visiting the pool until Daddy can accompany us.

After we play outside and 'wash up', we go back to the house for a cool drink and some playtime indoors. We stacked blocks today for quite a long time...stack them, knock them down, laugh! The pattern was circular. Around 11:30 I thought I should start getting some lunch together. We had an easy favorite: Mac N Cheese. After lunch, we headed into Nathan's room to read some books before nap time. Daddy stopped home on his meal break--he was attending a meeting fairly near by--and we were glad to say 'hi' to him in the middle of the day. He tucked Nathan in before heading back to the dismal gray monotony of professional business meetings. Poor Daddy!

I put some frozen chicken in the refrigerator to thaw. We are going to have chicken and rice for dinner. Nathan usually sleeps for a couple hours (at least) and then will wake up hungry for a snack and rearing to go! We'll have some summer sausage and cheese cubes for snack before doing something fun like coloring pictures or running circles around the kitchen and living room. It's just an ordinary day, but it is wonderful! I need to head to bed to help rejuvenate my weary body...and I want to do some reading in Philippians. For our small group (of couples), we read through different books of the Bible and discuss them. Since they've already done Job...probably my very favorite book in the Bible...I suggested Philippians. It is only four chapters long or something...but it is full of great stuff! I'm excited about revisiting this letter from Paul to the church at Philippi where he reminds them to 'whistle in the dark.'
