It's Raining Here in Houston...
Torrential downpours will not dampen our spirits! They will, however, dampen our apartment!

Today I awoke to the soothing sound of rain--it was reaching my ears from both without AND within our little abode. The couch (thankfully made of leather) was receiving a shower, and the water stains on the wall were growing larger by the minute. This is not altogether shocking. Every once and a while we have noticed a little leakage in this particular spot during heavy rainstorms. We've always called maintenance...they've never come up to check on it. Today has been no exception.

I wonder when they will come? When is a situation serious enough to persuade them out of the leasing office and into our apartment? Obviously their lack of response indicates that they do not find the problem as severe as I do. They must not think this is a crisis. Should I bother to call, I wonder, if the entire ceiling collapses in? If the apartment is on fire? If an asteroid falls through our roof and floor leaving gaping holes? If the toilets start overflowing? Are these things serious? I'm obviously NOT a realist. The fact that my couch is covered in water and a kitchenaid bowl sits, nearly full, collecting the invading rainwater seems to not be an issue. Therefore, I'm left to question what would be an issue.

Anyways, this is the joy of having an apartment. Leaky roof? Not my problem. Well, a little bit my problem...I did have to set out a rain-catch bucket, but I am not responsible to fix the problem. At the end of the day, if I have to take our maintenance man by the hand and drag him up to my apartment, he will be responsible to fix this issue. Not me. Not my money. Just my effort to get him here, it seems! For now, I'm stocking up on umbrellas. The next time it rains, we may all need to huddle underneath them even INSIDE our apartment!

Good grief! What's wrong with those maintenance people?!! I'm sorry it is raining in your apartment you guys :( -- but you are right -- at least it isn't YOUR house being wrecked! We'll pray some of our sunshine comes your way -- it's supposed to rain around here in the next day or two (which we really need) -- so perhaps we will switch skies for awhile!

Water coming into the apartment is BAD. But the way it has been raining -- soon it may be coming up from the floor as well as down from the roof.

Give Nathan a kiss from me.
