Nathan has been sick. For a couple days he has had a fever and been a bit out of sorts. I've not been terribly concerned, but yesterday evening he was content to just sit or lay on the floor. For those who have spent any amount of time with the toddler, this is as far from normal as it is possible to be! I've been dosing him up with Tylenol and Motrin to keep the fever down, but it is so sad to have a little boy who doesn't feel well. Last night, at 1AM, when Nick got back from work, Nathan heard the door and started crying. Nick was really kind to him. Nick got him a little snack and let him sit in bed between Mommy and Daddy for a bit. At that point in time he didn't feel feverish--what a relief! This morning, although a damper on our plans to try a new church, we are letting the toddler sleep in. I hope today is better...I miss his spunk!

Yesterday we spent a couple hours walking through the shopping district on Galveston Island with Nathan and Duke. People are just drawn to Duke! "What kind of dog is that??" they ask. People wonder how much he eats (5 cups of dog food a day). People are curious how much he weighs (125 lbs). And, on occasion, somebody will joke that they would like to ride him. We laugh politely as though we've never heard that one before. We even noticed that people taking trolley tours through Galveston would point their camera in Duke's direction. I'm not sure how they will incorporate that image into their scrapbook, but if I were one to scrapbook, I'm pretty sure the description would say, "Everything IS bigger in Texas!" Anyway, after two hours of walking I was totally spent and have officially declared that until I return to normal size and shape, these walking excursions will need to be put on hold.

It's a rainy, lazy day on the homestead. I wish some more of you were here so we could pull out a board game and share some cookies (that I envision Olivia might help me bake). By the way, Olivia, I picked up some little gifts that I intend to give you at Christmas time. That Aunt Rachel, she is always looking out for you! Much love to all...

I hope our wee man is feeling better today ... so sad when little ones are sick. Your walk on Galveston Island sounds wonderful. Perhaps you could go there, but pick a shorter route to walk? It's so beautiful there, I would think it would just lift your spirits with looking at the beach, the ocean and everything that accompanies it ...
