Halloween festivities have begun! Tonight was family night at the Houston Children's Museum, and the 'Spooktacular' Halloween exhibit had been all set up. There were little trick-or-treat stations, craft tables, and lots of employees in costume. We enjoyed ourselves quite thoroughly, and although Nathan is not the official sailor in the family, I think he looks quite comfortable in his little uniform.
Here is Nathan, fully outfitted, and requesting Mom stick a straw in his juice box. The uniform is a kids size 6/8 which I hastily hemmed up this afternoon. I kept the hems loose. Nathan may be a sailor for the next 4-5 Halloweens. "Oh, surprise, it's that Jones' boy as a sailor again! And look, there's the little dog Hoo-Yah...convenient....right alongside him." People will look forward to any deviation from the usual. "Is that a new sailor hat on Hoo-Yah? I really like the new touch!!"
Nathan most enjoyed an exhibit that had nothing to do with sailing OR Halloween. It was the little, freshly-hatched chicks. They are cute, but they sure do stink! I could smell them even from outside their little incubator. They must nauseate themselves breathing in that odor all day long.
Nia sort of stole the show dressed (exactly the same as Nathan was for Halloween #1) as a cow. People kept doing double takes and then saying, "Oh, we thought that was a stuffed animal! It's a baby!" She slept the entire trip. She did not enjoy trick-or-treating. She wasn't taken by the baby chicks. She neither accepted nor rejected the various compliments posed to her. She just slept. Sometimes I wish she and I could trade places. I'd like a whole day to vegetate.
It was a fun day. Tomorrow we are planning to celebrate 'Fire Safety Month' by checking out an engine at a local library. Nathan has recently discovered sirens and will enjoy being up-close to one of the loud, "whoo-whooooo" trucks. I'm yawning as though the majority of my sleep has been interrupted by a crying baby and abruptly ended by an early-morning toddler. Wait, maybe that really IS why I'm yawning. Happy early Halloween--more festive posts soon to follow! And, in preparation for a great day tomorrow:

Enjoy FIRE SAFETY MONTH, everyone! Remember: STOP, DROP, AND ROLLLLLL....

I love that sailor's costume and Nathan sure does look like he enjoys it too. I am currently trying to decide on the costumes this year for our three. I was going to put Karis in one of Jackson's hand-me-downs but I also want to dress her up cute while I still can get away with it. Plus with how little she is- his costumes still are way to big for her! Goodwill here I come.

The sailor outfit is perfect on Nathan. What a handsome little lad he is! I'd tell you that Nia makes a very good cow, but somehow that doesn't sound right ...

It sounds like you guys had a real fun time there at the museum. I agree with you about the baby chicks. For my Biology class my junior year, we had to raise baby chicks and inject them with hormones for some reason that I still can't figure out -- but I will NEVER forget the smell!

The costumes look great, or maybe it's just the grandchildren in the costumes.

Happy Halloween!!
